    Engineering a new future

When James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the double helix nature of our DNA, they probably didn’t think a machine that is smaller than a laptop will be able to read your genetics one day. Today, DNA sequencers are a commercial reality, companies are racing to win the next big game in genetics, and that starts with building analyses machines cheaper, better, and more advanced than any that came before it. We are glad to be a part of Genapsys in their search for the biggest small thing that defines who we are. We helped Genapsys in creating prototype for one of their earliest units, a sequencer that is very advanced also needs a shell that is very advanced, easy to use, and provide many advanced functions that were not typical of your average industrial covers. As always, some beautiful shots of the finished products, as you can see, we are particular proud of the way these came out.

The paint job for this device is provided both inside and outside. Having a strict requirement from the customer gave us the opportunity to prove ourselves, needless to say, they are a happy and repeat customer for us.

Fitting is also very important to not let the inside show. This is pretty simple for Inception3D since all of our products will go through this process as a standard. We make sure every single item we ship out is properly fitted and will replace them with new ones if this tolerance is not met. Even though our customers may not always specify tolerance requirements, having a fitting product is very important result of quality craftsmanship. We pride ourselves in having very high yield due from excellent quality control. Here you see some production QA shots where test fitting are conducted, these images are showing the failed items. Along with some quality assurance shots.

    Digital Architecture

This is a Chinese styled room. With traditional wall coverings and showing how big the actual room will be, the unusual shape of the room really defines the space with a touch of the modern world.

Inception3D has seen many architecture buildings come through its door. Each one is just as unique as the one that came before it. We have office buildings, schools, homes, industrial, and grand pavilions, captured elegantly by Eisenman.

“The problem with digital architecture is that an algorithm can produce endless variations, so an architect has many choices.”

    Peter Eisenman

3D Printing have enabled the architecture field to literally build their dreams. Before, it will take an architect firm from a month to half a year to build a model building. Cutting it down to a matter of a few days, it really is revolutionary. The ability to present these models is one of the best ways they can see the light of day.

This water tower came out exceptionally well, with details showing maintenance locations and getting to them, you can really imagine how large the building will be with a model, and how people can gain access to these types of buildings. Needless to say, this print was quite difficult and requires many supports, but nothing we can’t handle.

Good wax shoe take you to good casting places.

I hope nobody wears solid orange shoes, these are an exception though, because they are 3D printed in wax. As you can imagine, these are not life size shoes, they are replacement feet for your typical Ken and Barbie dolls, complete with shoelaces! This highly detailed 3D printed wax gives you the ability to make real solid products, by using wax loss process.

Usually, we show only the final product, but in this case, I thought it will be a good idea to give users our process to provide more insight and good ideas to make our products even better. This particular set of shoes will be make to cast into metal, with the exact same details. Although less common, the same procedure can be done to make a mold for plastic, so we can actually use thermoplastic in place of metal for the final product, this includes PVC, ABS, or Vinyl.

The process simple, but messy, a master mold is created using plaster, to any quantity you desire, a wax based master will be wrapped around in this plaster and when dry, it will be baked at high temperature to vaporize the wax and dry the plaster. Then, either metal (Aluminum, Magnesium, or Copper alloys), or thermoplastics can be molten and poured into the holes where the wax is vaporized, filling the now empty cavity with your desired material. The mold is then broken, and the parts moved for cleaning and shipment. We use this process because it can produce a fairly high volume with these special metals or plastics, at very high quality, and very low cost. Of course, the master mold is what the quality is based on, so here’s some examples of these high quality masters, thanks to the wonders of 3D printing.

  • Don’t you love the smell of freshly milled aluminum in the morning?

Don’t you love the smell of freshly milled aluminum in the morning?

Then you come to the right place! There’s nothing like a freshly cut part from a CNC machine. As you can probably imagine, cutting a wheel like this is not the easiest job in the world. It takes a skilled machinist to pull something like this off the first time around. At Inception3D, we have the expertise to make your next job easier, faster, and cheaper. Our shop is so streamlined that it is often cheaper to cut a new piece rather than fixing an existing piece.

This is an example of a mold we cut in order to produce a plastic dome. Even though we are cold casting and doesn’t require a metal mold, if you are producing a lot, a metal mold would be necessary to maintain the quality throughout the production process. As rubber molds are fast and cheap, the tolerance is still low due to the plasticity of the mold. Having a metal mold will guarantee your parts come out perfect each and every time. It will still be a magnitude cheaper and faster than steel molds since it is not suitable for injection molding.

  • You can’t buy happiness but you can buy cars.

You can’t buy happiness but you can buy cars.

A lot of them, in fact. You can even run your own production line; without a lot of upfront commitment. That’s not something every prototype maker will make the promise to. We use cold casting, which does not involve heavy machinery to cut your mold, in fact, we use a rubber mold which is good for up to 100 pieces. Essentially making replicas of 3D printed or CNC prototypes for your first production run, this gets you the small quantity you need to show your customers what kind of design you can do, at a fraction of the cost to produce by injection molding. The smiles on the customers faces when we deliver is something that pushes us to delivery even better next time.

For this delivery set, urethane casting with primer paint, soft black rubber casting for the tires on vehicles, and happiness on our customers faces.

    Doraemon Title

20 Years ago, there was a cute character out of Japan by the name of Doraemon. He was a robot from the 25th Century sent by the main characters great great great grandson to help his family get better. Doraemon was produced in a factory, but 4 centuries earlier! In 2017, lots of Doraemon have been produced right here. Except well, they don’t move and they don’t have a magic pocket.

    3D Printing from a Picture

As part of Inception3D’s service, we can generate a 3D model from just an image file. We do not charge for this service as it’s integrated as part of our print preparation. Send a picture to our email and request for a 3D print from image.

The 3D model will be a mapping of the brightness on the image. The peak and trough of the 3D model will reflect from the image.

Stamps, cup holders, pictures, anything you can draw in 2D, we can make it into a 3D mapping print. Larger volumes of custom commercial products can be done on our side with bulk discounts as well.

We can also dye these types of plastic into a darker shade of colors. Using economy cream material, turn time is as fast as 24 hours.

If you notice in this un-dyed picture of the rings, the left one is actually composed of 3 individual rings tied together, this is printed in one assembly.

Well, not really, but it is for Halloween, so that’s at least spelling murder for your wallet. Printing something this large will cost a pretty penny, but there are ways to save on cost. One good way to do this is to reduce the volume of the mask, this is possible by thinning out your design. Not to worry, our material is very strong and will hold very well even at 1mm for this size objects. We can also do this as a service to you if you do not have the capability of modifying your design. The end result will be very light, very strong, and not a lighter burn on your wallet. So next time you want to murder someone, make sure your design is hollowed out first!

    I call architecture frozen music.

    -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

And what a beautiful piece of music this is. Our friends at link-arc has produced a beautiful sonata. This very intricate design is so delicate that assembling just one of the models will literally break someone’s back and take a couple of months. What if the entire build of the design can be had in just 6 days? From upload to delivery, that is a promise we can make.

Here’s how many parts it takes to build this model:

    China House Pavilion architectural kit
    China House Model Kit

Would you like to turn that model, into a usable one for all your displays? You have always heard that 3D printing will help bring architecture modeling to the next step, but you probably didn’t know something like this can be completely 3D printed. If you look closely, there’s even an open door inside of the pavilion. There’s also a field of grass sticks, each about 1mm in thickness, standing freely and one can almost imagine it sways with the wind. There’s a gap between each roof tile, with each tile having a detailed marking, which is held on by thin truss. The size of the building cannot fully fit within one entire print job, so it had to be truncated to 3 parts.

Regretfully, our photo studio cannot fit this item in. But worry not, we have a even smaller model for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy the music.

    Introducing Clear Material

Water clear Material is rolling out. This type of material is the same as our translucent version, but with a light post-processing, we can delivery crystal clear results. We will lose a little bit of resolution due to the post processing, (from 25um to around 75-100um), but the result is astonishing. This material is suitable for bottles, plastic bowls, LED pipes, or anything that is up to your imagination. The turn time for this material is a little longer due to the post processing (+2 days), but it is well worth the result.

  • Micro Gears!

    Micro Gears!

One of the benefits of using extreme high resolution printers is to be able to achieve very small volume. We printed this gear with the entire assembly being almost smaller than a single quarter. The gear turns, of course. We did not try print this item assembled due to the fact that it might be stuck to another in the original design. If you want to design something like this and print in one-go without assembly. Make sure you leave 300-500um of distance between plastic parts to ensure that the part doesn’t stick together. However, printing separately you will achieve tighter tolerance and have the joy of assembling the item together!

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Well, a model of an android, anyway, sleeping away in its white skeleton. We love this model so much that we decide to use it for our front cover, and feature it on our site all over. The reason is simple, it showcases our highly capable printer while also demonstrating what is possible with 3D printing technology, today.

The small size with the intricate parts of this skeleton makes it hard to print successfully. Inside some of the bones are actually empty because there is a structure within. The material used here is our staple Industrial White Material. Which gives our users very strong parts, strong enough to fly as a quadcopter blade.

We love showing off our capability, even though it is just a test print. See the gallery below and contact us for more details!

  • Urethane Casting and Polishing Work

    Urethane Casting and Polishing Work

This particular project is quite involved, with a total part count of 23 to assembly one complete case. All parts are first CNC cut for a master run. Then mold is created from the CNC parts. This process is necessary since the parts are large with thin walls. Additionally, since there is a large number of parts being made, multiple molds can be created using the same CNC masters.

After casting, a nice black spray and polish is done over these case covers to provide a sleek look for our customers. High polish is definitely a plus to be used in show rooms, product displays, and initial delivery of products before your parts are completed in a mold factory. We can turn these much faster so your iterations and initial production time is not delayed. This allows you to work out all of the bugs before paying for expensive injection molds. Multiple iterations can be done cheaply with 3D printing and urethane casting to provide an efficient method for initial production rather than revising your injection molds over and over again.

Our production team is able to bring you quality, price, and speed. Our engineering support has first class knowledge and will provide you with all of our experience with production, because we understand you want to design your heart out and not worried about the manufacturing details. This is the Inception3D service.
